I don't think anyone would have seen this review coming...
I'd like to specify that I am reviewing this song ONLY, it is in no way a judgement of his character whatsoever and it is merely what I think of his song.
Moving on, I actually somewhat like this song and it really shows how much he has improved vocally. I think having the first half of the song being purely a piano background makes the song feel emotional, raw and painful which encapsulates what James was trying to say in this song.
For this being only his second song, I'd say he did a job well done. However, I do have some personal opinions about what I think could have been done better.
For example I think his adlibs were slightly redundant because of the way he did it. For this song I think it would have been better if instead of a doubling adlib or harmonies his adlibs could have been more like runs(?). So instead of the adlib being him saying "boys don't cry" in harmony, it could have been sung in a different way like in a higher pitch and as more of a run.
Additionally, I think it could have been better if the beat drop and drums came in after "call me back" post-chorus to give the song more impact. I think the instrumentals were quite minimal too but not in a bad way, for a song like this it's quite suitable but it did seem like it was missing something, perhaps a electric guitar or trumpets or maybe just a louder instrumental in the bridge.
Overall, I think this song really isn't that bad and that James Charles has improved as a vocalist. You can feel the emotion he put into this song and I think that's quite commendable.
