I truly believe SM's TAEYONG is the most "neo" man to exist. Making his latest solo comeback after "SHALALA - the 1st Mini Album", he released "TAP - the 2nd Mini Album" ! Needless to say, the album keeps the essence and vibes of TAEYONG as an artist and rapper. Similar to "SHALALA", "TAP" gives off a very swaggy and cool vibe.
At first, I was a little skeptical as to what "TAP" would sound like as the repetitive chorus was something I tend to stray from. However, similar to "SHALALA", TAEYONG manages to pull it off and now I'm fully addicted to this song.
At the very beginning we're introduced to weird noises and synth which gave me a flashback to the "Sticker" intro...
Jokes aside, from the very start we get captivated by this unique sound that is truly "Neo" and "TAEYONG" and of course, his hip and cool raps welcome us from the beginning too. Though he is a rapper, the way he sung "I'm saucin'" was so addictive and was on repeat for HOURS. His style of rap follows him to when he sings and that's just something about him that I find very unique and cool!
Although the chorus was a little too repetitive for me and lacked something big that'd differentiate it from the pre-chorus, it was still quite nice to listen to. However, I'd say that the "highlight" or "killing part" of this song would be either post-chorus or the bridge (personally those were just the more memorable parts).
I'd say this song is on a similar level to "SHALALA" and kept the same originality, style and uniqueness that TAEYONG has. However, this song needed a little more in my opinion. Perhaps a stronger drum, bass or weird but cool synth.
I must say that while his Title-Track is "TAP", some of the other songs on his album are slightly (or more) better. The album really does consist of almost all of TAEYONG's vocal abilities from raps to slow, sad songs. The album is definitely worth listening to! Some of my personal favorites are "Moon tour" and "APE" :) Hope you enjoy this read! See you next time :)
