5th Gen K-pop is gradually transitioning into its Summer era, and ZB1's "SWEAT" joins the lineup of refreshing releases along with RIIZE’s “Impossible” and BOYNEXTDOOR’s “Earth, Wind & Fire”. Unlike ZB1's previous tracks like "In bloom" and "CRUSH," "SWEAT" introduces a slightly different sound and vibe, signaling a shift in their musical direction.
"SWEAT" exudes an old-school K-pop feel with its fresh and care-free vibe, perfectly capturing the essence of summer. The repetition of "sweat" and "rum pum pum" in the chorus creates a very catchy tune that's easy to sing along to, making the song undeniably addictive. However, while the chorus stands out for its infectious melody, the song overall lacks variation in my opinion, with the tempo remaining relatively constant throughout. Adding some dynamic shifts or instrumental variations could have enhanced the song's overall impact and provided a more engaging listening experience.
Furthermore, I think "SWEAT" could have benefited from a rap section, similar to ATEEZ's MINGI's rap in "WAVE." An addition like that would have injected more excitement and energy into the track, complementing its summer vibe and adding another layer of depth to the song.
I think "SWEAT" by ZB1 is an amazing addition to the Summer K-pop lineup, offering a fresh take on the group's musical style. While the song's catchy chorus and care-free vibe are its strengths, incorporating more variation and possibly a rap section could have further elevated its impact. Nonetheless, I’m really looking forward to what’s to come from ZB1 and I’m also really looking forward to their concert this September ;)
