Reading reviews about "Crazy Form", I've seen so many mixed opinions. Some said it brought them back to "Wonderland" while others said this song is a disappointment in comparison to songs like "Bouncy". In my opinion, this song while majority of it was insane and catchy, lacked a more powerful chorus. At first the song was pure perfection to me but, after reading others opinions and re-listening to ATEEZ's previous Title Tracks I realised that "Crazy Form" did lack something in their chorus.
I don't think it has anything to do with the melody or lyrics but rather with the instrumentals.
Honestly this just proves the power of your instrumentals. When I checked "Bouncy" instrumental and compared it to "Crazy Form", you can hear a significant difference in terms of drums and bass which in my opinion are the instruments which play the biggest role in a chorus of an electronic based song. I think because the chorus first appeared as a verse which transitioned to Mingi's rap which oftentimes contains more toned down and simple instrumentals, the verse lacked some impact to smoothen the transition. Aside from the chorus, the rest of the song was amazing.
Each section of the song served. Mingi's rap was solid as always and I love that on stage he has a mic stand to play around with. The pre-chorus perfectly played it's role of creating a build up to the chorus with the slight beat drop and instrumental build up. The second verse or post-chorus featuring Yeosang and Wooyoung is so addictive to listen, dance and, sing along to and Hongjoong's rap was phenomenal. I loved the raspy and scratchiness of his voice while he rapped. Lastly, Jongho's bridge will probably remain one of my favourite parts of this song. When San said Jongho's parts made him levitate, I felt that.
Someone said this song was giving NCT as in it was very Neo. I get where they're coming from since ATEEZ hasn't really released a song like this before and it does have a bit of an NCT vibe to it. Some even said this song was different because EDEN's style changed. Regardless, I still think this song slaps and that #1 on Billboard 200 was well deserved. I do admit that at first listen during MAMA I was a little thrown off by the many things going on musically but after a proper listen when the song was released, I immediately loved it. At the end of the day, you can't spell ATEEZ without "ATE".
